Gaythorne Bowls Club are Continuing the FREE Introductory LEARN TO BOWL Sessions as part of the Brisbane city Council GOLD program every Wednesday Morning in September and Every Tuesday evening in October 2021.

The Introduction to Lawn Bowls Sessions held at Gaythorne Bowls Club as part of the BCC’s GOLD Program in May and June were plagued by rain. Not a great number of people attended but that enabled The Gaythorne Bowls instructors to give closer attention to each participant.  This individual attention gave the people learning a better understanding of the game.

Three (3) ladies who participated in the sessions are intending to join Gaythorne Bowls Club to further refine their bowling styles.

It seems like forever that bowls has always been seen and promoted by the media as an activity for older people. Perhaps that may have originally been the case, but these days when you see the Australian and International bowls games at their venues or on TV, etc. the majority of participants are in their earlier years ie. aged in 20’s to 50’s. So why does the media always show videos of older people on bowling greens every time they have a story to do about older people – it’s wrong and continues to reinforce the wrong idea in peoples’ minds about the game of bowls.

More Introduction Learn to Bowl Sessions are being planned for later this

year – every Wednesday morning in September and every Tuesday

evening in October. Further details will be posted on our Facebook and

Web Page as closer to these dates

Gaythorne Bowls Club also encourages GOLD participants’ friends and family members,

or other members of the public, if not in the 50 and over age group, to also come and join us on the

greens at these times.

Everyone who comes along for these introductory sessions on these days is able to play

2021will be the 6th year Gaythorne Bowls Club has been working with the BCC to host this activity and it is great to see so many

people being introduced to the game of bowls, and as it turns out, a few people decide to get more involved with the game and

become members of Gaythorne Bowls Club or another bowls club closer to where they live.

After the sessions, participants are always welcome to enjoy the comforts of the clubhouse and

refreshments are also available.
